The main attraction around the Ueno station is the Ueno zoo, perhaps the best zoo in Japan, and the home of a couple giant panda bears. On weekdays, expect to see several groups of kids on school excursions, all decked out in their various school uniforms.

Also in the Ueno area is a very nice park, especially popular during the cherry blossom season, and several museums.
